FLV or SWF or WMV or MOV ?...

FLV's are very reliable as the format used by YouTube. Although I can make my files flv, I'm not sure if the server where the files are stored needs to have some special features turned on. Therefore I use swf and wmv as of this moment.

Many people use the Mac computers and must have software installed to read a wmv file, which is a Windows Media Video. The Mac will usually have Quicktime already installed and just need to be updated.

Adobe Flash Player will render the swf files on both Windows and Mac.
I suggest that you have the latest version of the flash player plug-in for your browser.
Experimentation is the best way to decide what works best for you.
Below I listed some optional formats .

The MPEG-4 standard is relatively complicated and can be confusing. There are many variations of the format, some are ISO-compliant and some aren't. Quicktime, for example, deals with both ISO-compliant .mp4 files and non-compliant .mov files. Some MPEG-4 files play in any player, others will only work in certain players.

  1. Windows Media
  2. RealMedia
  3. Quicktime
  4. MPEG (in particular MPEG-4)
  5. Adobe Flash

MC Media Player is a Flash-based media player for embedding video, audio and still images in web pages. It is free to use for both non-profit and commercial websites.

I will try to make references to the techniques used to produce some of the effects on my site.
